Boat Registration Numbers from StickyLife are made to comply with USCG Federal Requirements for vessel identification. Each order comes with two pre-cut strips of your custom registration number, one for each side of the bow, pre-spaced, waterproof, and masked with transfer tape so they are ready to apply right out of the package. Numbers are 3" high, set in the required block lettering style using the Arial font, and available in more than 35 colors so you can choose a shade that contrasts clearly with your hull color as required by law. The vinyl is built to hold up in both fresh water and salt water conditions.
If you want something beyond plain registration numbers such as different sizes, multiple colors, or custom graphics, our vinyl lettering tool gives you more flexibility. Keep in mind that custom lettering orders are not guaranteed to meet federal or state requirements. StickyLife is not responsible for lettering that does not comply with applicable federal or state requirements.

FAQs
Do these numbers meet federal and state requirements?
These numbers are formatted to meet USCG federal requirements, which specify that registration numbers must be at least 3" high, displayed in plain block lettering, and in a color that contrasts clearly with the hull background. The USCG standard applies in all states. However, many states have additional rules about placement, spacing, and how the state prefix and validation decal are displayed. StickyLife is not responsible for lettering that does not comply with applicable requirements. If you have any doubt about your state's specific rules, check with your state boating authority before ordering.
What do I get with each order?
Every order includes two complete sets of your registration numbers — one for each side of the bow. Each set is pre-cut, pre-spaced, and pre-masked with transfer tape. Application instructions are also included.
What color should I choose for my boat registration numbers?
Federal and state requirements specify that your registration numbers must contrast clearly with the color of your hull. If your boat is white or light colored, black or dark numbers are the most common choice. If your hull is dark, white or a bright color works well. Avoid choosing a number color that is similar to your hull color, as this will make the numbers hard to read and may not meet legal requirements.
How do I apply the numbers to my boat?
Clean the hull surface where the numbers will go and let it dry completely. Peel the paper backing off your set of numbers and position them on the hull. Press firmly and smooth the transfer tape down from one end to the other to eliminate air bubbles. Once the numbers are adhered, slowly peel away the transfer tape at a low angle. The vinyl adhesive is stronger than the tape, so the numbers will stay on the hull as the tape is removed. Application instructions are included with every order.
Where exactly do the numbers go on the boat?
Federal requirements state that registration numbers must be displayed on both sides of the forward half of the vessel, which typically means on or near the bow. Numbers must be in plain sight and read from left to right on both sides. Your state may have more specific placement rules — check with your state boating agency to confirm exact positioning for your vessel type.
