Using Colors

When selecting your colors choose them carefully. Some colors look great together while others don't. Generally speaking choosing two high contrasting colors like black and white usually provides a highly legible outcome. Using colors that are close in value will make it hard to see. The value of a color refers to the lightness or darkness of a color. An example of two similar hues or two colors that have a similar value would be our intense blue and black or burgundy and black. It is important to select the right colors for the best results. A good rule of thumb is to create your custom license plate and then step back from your computer screen (about 7-10 feet) and see if you can still read it. Please keep in mind that our design tips are merely suggestions and we would be glad to produce your vanity license plate however you want.

Using Images

Using an image is a great way to add personal style to your custom license plate, but doing it right may take a while to figure out. When uploading images to our Design Tool make sure to use high resolution images in full focus and sharp details. Our website will then take your image and re-size it for optimal web use. Once you place your order we will have access to the original image.

We suggest using the image types .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif we can also use your pdf. You cannot upload vector files to our design tool and would suggest creating a transparent .png of your artwork before uploading it. Larger images may take a little longer to upload. We suggest keeping the image below 3mb in size or 2,000px in either direction. Our Design Tool can handle larger images than that but may take longer to upload. Patience may be needed for extra large images.

Images that look best are in full detail and the subject matter is in full view. We suggest using graphic programs like Adobe Photoshop to clean up and crop your photo down for subject focus. See the following examples:

Keep it Simple

Every license plate design that you create will always have a general theme. That theme or message can be communicated in a variety of ways. It can get out of control well before you even know it. For best results keep your design simple by not adding a lot of elements. If the primary focus is your name then make that the most obvious thing. You can add clip art images, additional text, and upload photos to help support your name and your interests but the more you include the more busy it becomes. Busy license plate designs will often look unprofessional and cheap. To keep it simple develop a plan for your design. First determine a hierarchy flow. A hierarchy flow is nothing more than a list of most important elements to the least important elements. Make sure your most important elements are obvious and work down from there.

Materials and Construction

All license plates are made in the USA and created with strong attention to detail. We pride ourselves in top quality American Made products and our vanity license plates are no exception. Our aluminum license plates are made through a process called sublimation. We don't stamp or press our vehicle plates so you should not expect a license plate with embossed or raised letters.

Each metal license plate is approximately 0.025" thick and made from a high quality aluminum material. Create your own by adding your logo, photo, or use our clip art images and text to stylize your plate to your liking.

Screw holes are spaced to fit a wide variety of cars, trucks and SUVs. Our safari license plates will fit most domestic and foreign automobiles. Note Screws are not included with your automobile license plate.
